Quick Die Change System
SERAPID QDX: Quick Die Change System
Die change safety & efficiency are critical factors for profitable operations. Each die change means exposure to downtime, possible operator injury, or damage to equipment. SERAPID QDX reduces and eliminates these exposures with purposefully designed equipment for these production environments.
SERAPID Rigid Chain Technology has been implemented into several products specifically made for moving dies in the press environment, for powerful positioning of dies with 0.5mm accuracy.
SERAPID PPS – Push-Pull System
SERAPID’s rigid chain Push / Pull System (PPS) is a heavy load linear actuator for quick die change providing thrust approaching 36,000 pounds.
The innovative design stores the retracted portion of chain out of the way, as opposed to a cylinder which requires equal room behind the point of origin to store the rod.
The PPS uses electro-mechanical movement via gearmotor and can repeatedly position dies with .05mm accuracy or more.
Benefits of Rigid Chain PPS
HIGH RELIABILITY
The PPS can withstand heavy loads and frequent use with little to no maintenance. In a typical pressroom environment, a rigid chain system will maintain itself.
TELESCOPIC POSITIONING
Reliably moves dies quickly and accurately. Telescopic movement keeps the transfer path clear when not in use.
CUSTOMIZABLE
Tailored to your specific needs. Whether you need a custom rolling bolster or specific side loader, SERAPID has you covered.
SAFE OPERATION
Designed with safety in mind. Every installation is developed with industry safety standards in mind.
How to Select the Right Quick Die Change System
There are a number of key factors to consider when designing a Quick Die Change system, whether as a new installation or as a legacy press upgrade.
Selecting the right quick die change solution requires a careful assessment of your production environment and long-term operational goals.
Key factors to consider include:
die weight
press type
frequency of changeovers
compatibility with your required clamp or clamps
available floor space
T-Slot size, number of T-Slots, and distance between T-slots
Heavy press equipment or high-frequency changeovers.
Thanks to the modular design of SERAPID’s Quick Die Exchange (QDX) solution, upgrading does not have to be done all at once. Therefore, be sure to focus on compatibility with existing clamps, presses, bolsters, and die trucks. This ensures that each die change is properly supported and aligned for every press type.
Important questions to ask potential vendors might include:
How accurate is the positioning?
How is Rigid Chain Safer?
Level of automation desired?
This is where SERAPID stands apart as a consultative partner
Rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions, SERAPID provides expert engineering guidance to design a system that aligns with your specific production needs. From initial assessment through to tailored installation and commissioning, SERAPID works closely with your team to ensure seamless integration, optimal performance, and a reliable return on investment.
Fully customizable and compatible: the SERAPID QDX system is a highly modular solution designed to work with a broad range of die handling components, including single- or double-acting clamps, bolsters, roller tables, die carts, guides, lifters, and hydraulic power units available in electric or air-driven configurations. In addition to operator-controlled systems, SERAPID provides a complete range of automated and remotely operated control solutions for smooth, hands-free, and accurate die positioning. This further minimizes changeover time while improving overall process efficiency. Every system can be customized to meet the specific machine configuration, layout, and production requirements.
