Used for starting a car, telecommunications systems, providing standby power and emergency lighting systems for hospitals, and much more, studies show that up to 97 percent of all lead used in battery production is recycled. This, plus the growing popularity of hybrid and electric vehicles, ensures the growth of the battery manufacturing industry.
However, manufacturers of these types of batteries encounter a particular production issue, the lead used in the units is so soft that residue builds up on the stamping presses and residue strippers and has to be regularly cleaned during production. This leads to lengthy down times while the operator manually removes nuts and bolts to release the die and plate, increasing the overall costs in manufacturing.
Serapid, known for finding creative solutions for unique manufacturing situations, was consulted by a battery manufacturer struggling with this issue, and Serapid’s engineers were able to custom fit products to the specific press application and were able to design a clamping solution enabling the operator to completely remove the plate with a simple click of a button, not only saving time, but reducing the potential for injury.
