Elevating Bar - Oasis of Seas Vessel
Perhaps one of our most exciting projects to date is the Rising Tide Bar currently on two of the world’s largest cruise liners. The first seagoing, travelling bar in the world carries 35 passengers, staff and a fully serviced bar serenely up and down through the atriums in Royal Caribbean's flagship cruise liners. The bars operate throughout the day providing one of the "must do" on-board experiences.
Serapid worked with the architect to develop a bar carrying 35 passengers and staff smoothly and silently up through the atrium. The project posed a number of challenges such as the space to store the LinkLift chains when the lift was in its lowest position, to handling the loads that arise when a forty ton bar is subjected to the dynamic loads encountered at sea.
An excerpt from the Royal Caribbean’s Chairman’s Blog: “...Atkins (the architects who designed the Royal Promenade and Central Park)... came back with another terrific idea which became the Rising Tide Bar. Now they proposed a moving bar which could hold a significant number of people and allow those guests to drink while they ride. To do this, it had to be certified as an elevator which is no mean feat. As you could imagine, the safety requirements for licensed elevators are quite high, but they had prepared all the engineering and safety systems that made it possible. Our entire team took one look at it and actually applauded at the end of the meeting.” Download project sheet
