Arena Stage System - Olympic Games 2008
Certainly one of the most outstanding projects in Serapid’s portfolio is the exceptional stage lift system created for the 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony at the Beijing National Stadium. Known worldwide as the “Bird’s Nest” Stadium, Serapid designed the lift system for the 11,625-square-foot stage in conjunction with U.K.-based event designer Mark Fisher.
Sixty-two Serapid LinkLift 100 columns lift the stage’s ten unusually shaped individual platforms, each with lifting capabilities of up to 23 feet. The company’s secret to the mobile surface, which can hold up to 595 tons, is a triple-scissor mechanism that holds maximum drift to five millimeters or less.
